ORC Sail Inspection and Certificate Compliance

Please review the following important ORC sail inspection and certificate compliance requirements. Competitors are responsible for ensuring full compliance with these requirements throughout the event:

  1. All sails planned for use shall be listed with their measurements on their ORCi certificate. To add or subtract sails from your certificate contact Chris Tutmark at the US Sailing Offshore office at ChrisTutmark@ussailing.org and/or offshore@ussailing.org. Please be mindful of the certificate deadline of September 1st per NOR 4.7.
  2. Each sail in the inventory shall have a measurement stamp or sticker with all required measurements clearly readable.
  3. Each boat shall select sails to be used at the event up to the maximum numbers as shown on their certificate.
  4. Sails carried on board may vary from day to day but shall remain the same for each individual race day, including days with multiple races even in the case of damage to sails. The race day begins when the boat leaves for the race course from its dock or mooring.
  5. Sails damaged during the event may be repaired. Sails beyond repair may be replaced with permission of the technical committee. Please sign up for a preferred day, time and place for having your sails inspected at this link: SAIL INSPECTION SIGN UP.

Our inspectors will also be checking that those boats designated as Cruiser/Racer on their certificate comply with all criteria listed in Appendix 1 of the IMS rules.

Boats that do not have their sails measured may incur a fee to have them measured at the time of inspection, and any corrections needed to certificates re-issued prior to racing may incur a certificate amendment fee.

Make sure to list all crew names at registration, and that your Crew Weight is no greater than what is listed on your certificate. If you need to make a substitution of crew, provide the names of the replaced crew to the Race Office and confirm that you are still in compliance with your maximum certificate crew weight.
